The flag of St George

St George's Day does seem to be ignored sometimes compared with the other national saints days in Britain.

Liberal Democrats know there's nothing wrong with being proud of your country, your flag and your nation's achievements.

What we deplore is when some political groups appropriate the symbols of the nation to promote intolerance, racial and religious bigotry and a view of England which is based entirely on their own narrow, exclusive definition of who can rightfully claim to be English.

So, celebrate St George's Day and English culture proudly today - the whole, diverse, colourful, mosaic of it.
