Not another take away! Lib Dem councillor backs local residents' campaign.11.57.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 6th Jul 2009
Residents in Woodlands Farm Road, Pype Hayes are objecting to a proposed take away claiming that the location is unsuitable for this type of establishment. Local residents feel so strongly that planning permission should be turned down that they have organised a petition in an attempt to persuade the Planning Committee to refuse to allow the take away to be sited at this unacceptable location. The petition highlights residents' concerns including inadequate parking and road safety issues as the take away is located on the junction of the busy Eachelhurst Road and Woodlands Farm Road. Other concerns include the close proximity to residential accommodation and the general increase in litter and nuisance associated with the typical take away. Local Liberal Democrat councillor Ann Holtom is backing the residents' fight. Ann said "I am supporting the residents' petition and will be presenting it to the Planning Department as I feel they have a strong case for the planning application to be refused." "There are more than enough take aways in this area, we certainly do not want another one." Cllr Holtom formally presented the petition to the Planning Department on 3 July and further supported the residents' campaign by sending in her own strongly worded objection against the application.
